Killing attempt on a 14-year old sprite put forth many controversy stories, but restricted our ability to acknowledge Facts

Malala Yousafzai

Malala Yousafzai was born in July 1997 and given her first name, Malala, meaning “grief stricken”. At her house in Mingora, she lived with her two younger brothers, her parentsAt the beginning of 2009, Yousafzai had a chance to write for BBC Urdu when her father, Ziauddin, was asked by Abdul Hai Kakkar, a BBC reporter out of Pakistan, if any women at his school would write about life under the Taliban. “We had been covering the violence and politics in Swat in detail but we didn’t know much about how ordinary people lived under the Taliban,” Mirza Waheed, the former editor of BBC Urdu, said. Because they were concerned about Yousafzai’s safety, BBC editors insisted that she use a pseudonym .

Yousafzai was interviewed on the national Pashto-language station AVT Khyber, the Urdu Aaj Daily, and Canada’s Toronto Star. On 19 August she returned toCapital Talk, where she reiterated her desire to become a politician, naming Benazir Bhutto as an inspiration. She reportedly criticized President Zardari on television, saying “At times I think if Zardari’s daughter were studying in Swat the schools would have never shut down.” In late 2009, Yousafzai’s political career appears to have started. A video dated 22 December 2009 shows Yousafzai entering an assembly room full of children who rise and begin clapping as they see her. 2011, Desmond Tutu announced Yousafzai’s nomination for the International Children’s Peace Prize and she became a celebrity in Pakistan. Her public profile rose even further when she was awarded Pakistan’s first National Youth Peace Prize two months later in December. On 9 October 2012, a gunman shot Yousafzai as she rode home on a bus after taking an exam in Pakistan’s Swat Valley. The masked gunman shouted “Which one of you is Malala? Speak up, otherwise I will shoot you all,”and, on her being identified, shot her twice, once in the head and once in the neck. Two other girls were also wounded in the shooting: Kainat Riaz and Shazia Ramzan, both of whom were stable enough to speak to reporters and provide details of the attack. After the shooting, Yousafzai was airlifted to a military hospital in Peshawar, where doctors were forced to begin operating after swelling developed in the left portion of her brain, which had been damaged by the bullet when it passed through her head. After a three-hour operation, doctors successfully removed the bullet that had lodged in her shoulder near her spinal cord. Ehsanullah Ehsan, chief spokesman for the Pakistani Taliban, claimed responsibility for the attack, saying that Yousafzai “is the symbol of the infidels and obscenity,” adding that if she survived, they would target her again.

Avoiding all the controversies that came into existence after the tragic ordeal struck to this innocent sprite, we have interviewed a native of Swat, resident of Gulkada where this assassination attempt was carried out. ‘’We all were very upset when we heard about this incident because once again the harmony and peace of Swat was gravely disturbed but we were most shocked when media all around the Globe accused Talibans and they themselves took the credit for it’’, mentioned by Talha Humayun Masood. What his claim is that this is a work of a much more organized and linked force instead of Pakistani Talibans who are already been hit into their spines and are scattered all over. The residence of Talha is about 150meters away from Sharif abad to Makan Bagh road where these children were targeted. Now his residence and Sharifabad road are only within the radius of 500 meters from The main Army headquarters also known as the circuit house and from a secondary army base camp as well. What his stance is that to get into this area you need to cross army checkpoints, prove your identity and only then you can proceed and also that you have Army personals and vehicles patrolling the area then how can a disbanded armed Taliban can carry out this mission without being caught? Moreover, surprisingly Prime Minister was visiting Mingora and army almost surrounded the area also vanguarding the roof tops of civilian residences. In short it was a highly secured parameter when a Taliban from nowhere showed up, opened fire in a school bus and left the spot without getting spotted. This tragic incidence might have gained glory and publicity for Malala and earned another wave of hatred in the name of Pakistani Talibans globally, but in the rush of showing our concern, sympathies and condolences for this innocent little child that we forgot to pay our attention to simple logic. By writing this piece of paper I never intended to give direction to any controversy but to simply highlight the simple facts and to interconnect it with common sense. A food for thought 🙂

Down Syndrome

Down syndrome is the most common and early identified chromosomal disorder which was first described by a British doctor John Langdo Down in 1887. It wasn’t until 1957, after the Watson and Crick model of DNA (1952) that an extra chromosome was identified as the cause.

It is a combination of physical abnormalities and mental retardation characterized by a genetic defect in chromosome pair 21. It is caused by the presence of all or part of a third copy of chromosome 21. The incidence is 1/650 and increases with maternal age. More than 60% of the babies are spontaneously aborted and 20% stillbirths are seen.

There are 3 main causes of Down syndrome.

  • 95% people have three separate copies of chromosome 21-trisomy 21, where the karyotype is 47, +21. Trisomy 21 results from non-disjunction during meiosis 1 during separation of chromosome 21.Most of the non-disjunctions are maternally derived. The phenotype observed is severe.
  • 4% people have the extra copy of chromosome 21 because of a Robertsonian translocation. The acrocentric p arms of chromosome 21 and 14 are lost during translocation. The karyotype is 46 but there is an abnormal chromosome with an extra 21 chromosome (chromosome 14 gains a part of chromosome 21). A severe phenotype is seen.
  • 1% people have mosaicism with normal and trisomy cell lines and usually have much milder features. Non-disjunction occurs during mitosis (postzygotically).

The clinical features seen are characteristic facial appearance with round face, flat nasal bridge, protruding tongue, small ears and epicanthic folds. Other dysmorphic features include single palmar crease, flat occiput, incurved little fingers, gap between first and second toes and small stature. Structural defects such as congenital heart diseases, duodenal atresia, mental retardation and developmental delay are encountered. Increased risk of leukemia, respiratory infections and hypothyroidism are some of the late medical complications.

Gene therapy is not effective for such chromosomal aberration. For a better life style treatment of phenotypic characteristics, such as surgical treatment of heart anomalies can be carried out. Referral to neurologists, child psychiatrists and speech-language pathologists on a regular basis can help manage the genetic disorder. Maintenance of a healthy diet and exercise can be very helpful too. Keep calm;it’s only an extra chromosome!

Social Networking and the Individual of the 21st Century

asasalarageThis is the 21st century – the age of social media, an age where we collect friends like stamps. However, despite the fact that man is a social creature, it is not possible for him to be friends with a very large amount of people. Research reveals that most humans are incapable of closely knowing more than around 150 people. This causes one’s social life to get demanding, as soon as new connections are built around the workplace or elsewhere. Thus, enters technology into the scene.

With the emergence of new social networking apps, people have found more opportunities to represent themselves on a public platform.

We belong to a generation addicted to technology, and hence, it has controlled our social circle interaction to a great extent. We engage in online conversations, exchange videos and photos with friends, check-in to places to make people aware of how we live. Even while sitting home, we can be aware of what is going on in other people’s lives, where they are hanging around and how is their lifestyle. As difficult as it may be for one to admit, we all use social networking to represent ourselves to the world the way WE want to.

Daily sharing of pictures related to people’s lifestyles has become a common frenzy on social networking apps like Instagram.

With the emerging concept of individualism in people, they have diverted themselves to a sudden feeling of self-actualization in which they explicitly reveal themselves through their personal achievements which may include one’s professional career, the amount of wealth one owns, a self-image, and of course, consumerism. Taking Instagram for example, we can vividly observe how people daily upload pictures of what they eat, how they look, what they wear, what they buy and where they go. It gives an opportunity to showcase one’s own lifestyle. This makes us realize how badly we’re engaged in endless personal promotion either on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Tumblr or Snapchat. We build up profiles, upload the photos only in which we look good, and share about the mainstream trending topics and point of view for the general public to absorb from our image – the way we want them to perceive us as.

One would reach to the thought about why interacting in real time has become so difficult nowadays. To answer that, in real-time conversation, you cannot control what you say. However, in conversing through a technological medium, we get the time-frame to think about how we create a message, or respond to one, think about the consequences of speaking something before we actually say it, have the ability to modify what we have written and no one can read our corresponding facial expressions to what we say. This gives our personal image another edge; however, deep down in our inner-self we know what we are trying to show. We use technology to define ourselves and this may lead to the extent of faking experiences just to have something to share. This sharing of continuous information about ourselves is itself a way in which we feel active and alive to the world of social networking and hence embed into the mainstream culture.

Xbox 360 Vs PlayStation3 (PS3) By Sultan Shah

Xbox 360 Vs PlayStaion (Ps3)

The Playstation 3 has the decided advantage when it comes to hardware. The CPU, memory, and graphical prowess is roughly a wash on both consoles as they are capable of roughly the same computational and graphical rendering abilities. Still, its evident that there are some issues with the PS3 given the graphical slowdowns and frame rate issues present only in the PS3 versions of multiplatform games. All PS3 models offer a Bluray optical drive, HDMI, gigabit Ethernet, and USB 2.0. In most models it also includes built-in Wifi and Bluetooth capability as well. While the hard drives are roughly the same in size to many Xbox 360 models, the PS3 makes it much easier to expand as it doesn’t require proprietary hard drive preloaded with software as the Xbox 360 does. The Xbox 360, while offering HDMI in its current models, only has a standard dual layer DVD optical drive, 10/100 Ethernet

This is where the Xbox 360 really falls apart. The Xbox 360 had a hardware defect where a heat source within the case causes some internal connections to become disrupted. This would cause a famous red ring to appear on the console indicating a specific hardware failure, hence the “Red Ring of Death”. This hardware issue was so bad that Microsoft extended their warranty for just this issue for a full 3 years after purchase. Aside from the Red Ring of  Death issue, both consoles endured issues from drive failures to the console scratching game discs, however these issues were minor even for a typical console release.

Going in more detail

The PS3 has been released in several different versions, with varying amounts of hard disk space. Buyers can now choose between a 160 GB system and a 320 GB system. There are no differences except for the amount of hard disk available.

The Xbox is currently available in four different configurations: the Xbox 360 4GB console, the Xbox 360 4GB, the Xbox 360 250GB console, and the Xbox 360 250GB console , all with or without Kinect. There are no differences except for the amount of hard disk available and whether or not it includes the motion control system Kinect.

The 8th generation consoles, Ps4 and Xbox One were released in 2013.

Processing Power

The Playstation 3’s CPU is a Sony, Toshiba, IBM-designed Cell microprocessor, with one 3.2 GHz PowerPC-based Power Processing Element .

The PS3 uses an Nividia Rsx which outputs resolutions from 480i SD up to1080i HD.

The Xbox 360 uses ATI Xenos for its graphics processing, which has 10 MG of eDRAM.

The PS3 has 256 mb of XDR DRAM main memory and 256 mb of GDDR3 video memory.

The Xbox360 has 512 mb of memory.

Accessories for the PS3 include wireless controllers, the Playstation Eye camera, headsets and a motion controller named Playstation Move.

Accessories for the Xbox 360 include a webcam, headsets for chatting, dance mats and Gamercize for exercise, and its motion-control system, Kinect.

The PS3 has a two-year failure rate of 10%.

The Xbox 360 has a two-year failure rate of 23.7%.

The price of the Ps3 in Pakistan is around Rs. 32000 but of course it         varies with model to model .

The price of Xbox 360 in Pakistan is around Rs .31000 nut of course it varies with model to model .

If Pakistan Was A Person by Eazaz Ali

If Pakistan was a person it would be a he, he would be kind and generous, he would have a true courageous heart, he would be honest but all these qualities wouldn’t make him a sissy or anything they would make him a person that he truly is and not one of those two faced people. He wouldn’t bully be bullied or let anyone else bully others. He may be weak against some but he would have its own way of winning a fight. He would have other friends similar to him, sure he could get a little irritating at some point but he always wants what’s best for him and his friends. Speaking of friends where there are friends there are also enemies but unlike normal enemies his enemies spread rumors about him and like all rumors these are also fake and he doesn’t pay any heed to them. However currently he is sick and that’s why he’s making these poor decisions that are ruining its life but until he can’t cure himself he can’t be the man he was. And though he may currently be under some sort of mind control by its inner conscious which makes him sick and do some very stupid things, I’m sure as I have faith in Pakistan that one day it will stand tall in grace with its other more successful acquaintances. Now just imagine if Pakistan wasn’t a person and would be an actual country, like it is, how great it would be to live in a country like that. I know that I am lucky to be a part of it.

Games vs Traditional Thinkers and Studying by Eazaz Ali

In the past gaming was just used a way to pass the time with consoles like the PS1 or handhelds like gameboy, and hence in the earlier times gaming was thought to be a waste of time. But now things have changed because not only has the maturity level of the game developers evolved but also the gamer’s maturity level has also evolved and with the new console in the market the industry as a whole has taken a huge leap towards improvement. But unfortunately people still think that gaming is a waste of time, and honesty it really irritates me because the people who say these things haven’t played any games and if they would have played any games then they would have thought differently. Gaming has now evolved so much that now it’s not just for fun or passing the time now it can enhance your reflexes increase creativity and is actually a very good factor in fighting depression. But sadly these traditional thinkers don’t want to change their perception about gaming, they see that gaming is actually good, now, but they will always choose not to believe it. Sure excess of everything is bad, but everything is included in it not just gaming but studying and other things. No one stops us when we are studying all night long but play two hours of games and everyone loses their minds, and why because it’s not productive. Who says gaming isn’t productive it’s a lot productive than studying something that is never going to help us in real life. Everyone says that  two hours of study won’t hurt anyone well to them I say this two or even three hours of gaming can kill three days of stress from studying.
